A Suffolk man is charged with four crimes after accidentally shooting himself during an argument with his estranged wife.

The incident occurred Saturday just after 6 p.m. in the 1800 block of Pamlico Trial. Robert Trevor Foote, 28, told police he had been taking target practice when he allegedly got into an argument with his estranged wife, and she attempted to leave with their 2-year-old child, city spokeswoman Debbie George said.

As he reached into the vehicle to try to take items out, he put his handgun into his holster and shot himself in the leg, George said.
