The owner of Virginia Neurology and Sleep Center hopes to move into a new office currently under construction in Bennett’s Creek by the end of August at the latest.

Dr. A.J. Barot, who runs the practice with sons Dr. I.A. Barot and Dr. N.A. Barot, said he hopes to start utilizing the new office “sometime in July, otherwise definitely by the end of August.”

Barot, a sleep specialist, has been practicing in the Suffolk and Portsmouth areas for about 30 years.

His neurology and sleep center has also had a presence in Chesapeake for some time.

When it does move into the Bridge Road office, the center will close its rented 3,000-square-foot office on Breezeport Way, only minutes from the new facility.

The new 7,000-square-foot office will cover about half the total floor space of the building.

“We needed a larger space so that it’s more comfortable and convenient for patients,” Barot said. “The sleep lab and the office will both be moved there (to Bridge Road), and will be expanded.”

The rest of the building will be utilized by ABC Health Care, which provides continuous positive airway pressure equipment for sleep apnea patients, as well as custom wheelchairs and seating for people challenged with severe trauma and skeletal diseases and/or disorders.

J.B. Denny Co. is building the structure and doing the internal build-out for the Virginia Neurology and Sleep Center.

“In a couple of months it will start to look like it’s complete and into the summer, they (the center) will probably move in,” said J.B. Denny, owner of the construction company.

Meanwhile, Barot hopes to attract a developer, or developers, for about nine acres of land he owns surrounding the new building.

He does not anticipate more health-related businesses. “I think it will probably be more for other commercial projects,” he said, “like a WaWa, or fast-food chain, or something like that.

“I haven’t really placed it on the market, but I plan to attract somebody,” to develop the land.

Doctors at the center look forward to expanding their facilities with the new location, Barot said.

“It will be more convenient for people to find, and more space to do what we want to do.”
