Goldie Wright

Goldie Mae Harrell Wright, 97, of Suffolk, went to be with the Lord on July 20, 2009. She was born on Aug. 21, 1911, in Nansemond County, the third child of 10 born to the later Walter Clement and Eva V. Carr Harrell. She was a graduate of Holland High School. Goldie was preceded in death by her husband, Wm. Frank Wright; son, Wm. Frank Wright Jr.; daughter, Eva Sue Gilmore; brothers, Walter, Emmett, Staley, Sidney, Hayes, Earl; sisters, Katherine H. Crocker and Marie H. Blythe.
Goldie was a loyal and faithful, life-long member of Somerton Friends Meeting where she was a member of USFW, North Carolina Yearly Meeting, and served as Clerk of the Meeting for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Box Elder Home Makers Club and the Friendly Fellowship of Holy Neck. She looked forward to her monthly Harrell Cousins luncheons and the annual reunions of the Harrell family. Goldie also loved to travel and visited many places in the world, including Australia and Europe.
Left to cherish her memory are grandsons, Curtis Wright and wife, Kerry, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Douglas Wright and wife, Denise, of Chesapeake; granddaughters, Jessica G. Bouras and husband, Greg, of Alexandria, Ky., and Kathy Gilmore, of Cold Spring, Ky.; daughter-in-law, Barbara O. Wright, of Chesapeake; brother, Clinton Harrell, of Suffolk. Goldie is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Preston Wright, Cassidy Wright, and Jack Wright; sisters-in-law, Trixie Harrell, Mildred Harrell, Florence Harrell, Marie Harrell; brother-in-law, Buck Blythe. She is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, Va. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 3 p.m. A graveside service will follow at Somerton Friends Meeting on Quaker Drive in Suffolk.
