Clyde Chapman Sr

SUFFOLK — Clyde Wallace Chapman Sr., 85, of the 400 block of South Sixth Street, Suffolk, passed away July 21, 2009 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and son of the late Moses and Mary Elizabeth Small Chapman. He was also preceded on the journey home by his daughter, Doris Chapman; son, Clyde W. Chapman Jr.; two sisters, Hazel Robertson and Catherine Roberts; and three brothers, Robert Chapman, Otis Chapman and Louis Chapman.
Mr. Chapman attended Andrew J. Brown School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired first class painter at NORSHIPCO after 25 years. He was a member of St. Mark Deliverance Center of Portsmouth and was Father of the Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Daisy R. Chapman; two daughters, Betty Gilchrist and Dorothy Chapman, of Suffolk; one son, James Otis Chapman, of Suffolk; two sisters, Georgia Mae Chapman, of Massachusetts, and Rita Ann Taylor, of Norfolk; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Chapman and Helen Nichols (George), of Suffolk; nine grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, cousins and friends.
A service to celebrate his life and home going will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2009 at New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministries, Inc., officiated by Overseer James Freeman. Interment will be in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
