William Godwin

William Henry Godwin, 88, of 5432 Nansemond Parkway, Suffolk, Va., died on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 in Golden Living Center, Portsmouth, Va. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late Hugh and Rhoda Godwin. He was also predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Carrie Godwin; one son, William H. Godwin Jr.; three sisters and one brother.
He was educated in the Suffolk school system. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in 1980 after 32 years of service. He was a member of Union Baptist Missionary Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Stephanie Juez, of Chesapeake, and Collette Hunt, of Suffolk; two sons, Anthony Godwin (Lauranette), of Suffolk, and William Davis (Beatrice), of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Annie McClure (Mack) and Margaret Roberts; one daughter-in-law, Michelle Godwin; one niece, Margaret Hubbard (John); one cousin, Margaret Davis; other family and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at Union Baptist Church officiated by Bishop C.V. Russell. Interment will be in Tynes Memorial Cemetery, Smithfield, Va.
