Presley Luther Eley Jr., 91, of the 1000 block of Greenway Road, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital. Mr. Eley was the son of the late Margaret Elizabeth Cotton and Presley Luther Eley Sr., and was the husband of the late Cleo Vaughn Eley. He was a member of Oakland Christian Church and was the owner/operator of Eley Supermarket in Whaleyville, Va.
Mr. Eley is survived by two daughters, Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Turner, of Chesapeake, Va., and Janet E. Meekins, of Portsmouth, Va.; two sons, Presley Luther Eley III, of Williamston, N.C., and James Henry Eley, of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Margaret C. Ramsey, of Suffolk, Va., and Angie N. Griffin, of Windsor, Va.; one brother, Kenneth Eley, of Suffolk, Va.; 29 grandchildren and 62 2/3 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Eley is preceded in death by his daughter, Evelyn Mehalko, and his two brothers, Lawrence Eley and Carey Eley.

A celebration of Mr. Eley’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 in Wright Funeral Home’s Chapel in Franklin, Va., with the Rev. Ernest Bowes officiating. Burial will follow in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Evans Funerals and Cremations of Edenton, N.C., is serving the Eley family.
