Mary Evelyn Johnson, of 124 S. Capital St., Suffolk, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Sunbury, N.C. and the daughter of the late Clifton Norman and Georgia Marie Riddick. She was also preceded in death by her son, Steven Lee Johnson.
She attended Sunbury Public Schools. She was a home health aide for 20 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Sandra Deloris Johnson, of Suffolk; one son, Wilbert Lee Johnson Jr., of Suffolk; eight grandchildren; five sisters, Edith O. Long, of Franklin, Va., Mary L. Norman, Vera V. Norman, Peggy A. Norman and Dorothy J. Norman, all of Suffolk; one brother, Willie L. Norman, of Suffolk; an aunt, Gladys N. Burrus and an uncle, Willie J. Burrus; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009 at Crocker Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Minister Paul Paige. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
