Eurnice Ransome

Eurnice “Ceal” Lucille Ransome, of 1945 Amsterdam Ave., New York, N.Y., departed this life Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009 at 7:40 p.m. at Saint Joseph Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y. She was born in Northampton County and was the daughter of the late Callie Ransome and John Bynum. Her family moved to Suffolk, Va., and then later to New York City. Eurnice was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Scott Ransome Sr. (wife Aretta Hargrave); grandparents, Estell Ransome Hall and Wiley Ransome; stepgrandfather, George Hall; uncle, Scott Ransome; aunt and uncle, Gracie and Cecil Bernard Sr.
She attended Andrew J. Brown Elementary School in Suffolk and New York City Public Schools. Eurnice worked as a medical clerk for many years. Eurnice was fun-loving and enjoyed a good joke. She was a faithful member of Cannon Baptist Church, New York City, where the Rev. L.T. Walker is pastor.
Left to cherish the precious memories of Eurnice are three aunts, the very devoted Mazie Ransome Garris and Uncle Bootman Garris, of New York City; two nephews, Kevin Ransome and wife of Chesapeake, Va., Earl Ransome Jr., of Virginia Beach, Va.; one niece, Ketta Ransome, of Virginia Beach; two very devoted cousins raised as sisters in the same home while in Suffolk, Essie Edwards (Phillip), of Chesapeake, and Mazie Blount (Alvin), of Petersburg, Va.; two great-nephews and one great-niece; one goddaughter, Tiffany Venable, of Georgia; a host of cousins, relatives and many devoted friends; Yvonne Venable and family and the Rev. Oral Roberts and members of his family.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Greater First Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Henry G. Baker. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
