“The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.” — Psalm 90:10
After a brief illness, Roosevelt King made his transition to his eternal home Nov. 3, 2009.
Roosevelt was born in Nansemond County, Jan. 8, 1925. He was predeceased by his mother, Lealer Jordan King, and a brother, John Foster (Sonny).
After 20 years of faithful service in the U.S. Marine Corps, Roosevelt was honorably discharged. Shortly thereafter, he began employment with Planters Lifesavers Company in Suffolk. One of his hobbies was fixing cars, houses, etc. He loved to read books and to try to figure out how things operated.
He leaves to cherish his memory: four children, Dr. Margaret Ann King, Lealer Rose King, Dr. Tony Roosevelt King, and the Rev. Ronda King Smith; three step-children, Joice Scott Whitehorn, Jerome Scott, and Jerone Scott; two grandchildren, Ross James Klingerman and Jahla Michelle Smith; and a host of other relatives, nieces and nephews.
A service of memory will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home Chapel, 685 Carolina Road, Suffolk. Burial will be in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
