Mrs. Edna Mabel Bowers Jordan, 93, of 127 Eagle Lane, Suffolk, Va., died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009 at the Riverside Convalescent Center in Smithfield, Va. A native of
Southampton County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Rosa Cypress Bowers. She was also predeceased by her husband, Alex Jordan and all of her seven sisters and brothers.
She was a housewife, but also owned a small store that provided a great service to the Chuckatuck community. She was a member of the Friendship Church of God in Christ for more than 60 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Georgia Anne Lauher (Maurice), of Fort Mill, S.C.; a devoted niece, Marie Bowers, who was her companion for many years until she was admitted to Riverside; Angela Godwin, a special friend who was like a daughter and was fully committed to her care and well-being; a stepson, Artha Lee Allen; two sisters-in-law, Floris Brown, of Suffolk, Va., and Delma Ensley, of Philadelphia, Pa.; one grandson, Tony Lauher (Paula), of Charlotte, N.C.; two young men who were like her grandsons, Antoine and Javon Godwin, of Suffolk, Va.; two great-granddaughters, Jordan and Kendyl Lauher, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Homegoing services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Little Bethel Baptist Church, 6533 Everets Road, Suffolk, Va. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery.
