Constant “Gus” Mike Constant, 84, passed away Jan. 9, 2010.
Born in Petersburg, Va., he was the son of the late Alma and Constant Mike Constant. He was predeceased by his wife, Hattie Beatrice Constant.
Gus was a member of the Suffolk DAV Chapter 5, Magnolia Ruritan Club, VFW Post 2582, National Duck Pin Bowling Congress, National Rifle Association and the American Numismatic Association. He retired as a machinist for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He also had worked at Dashiell’s Half-Round Showroom.
He is survived by his three daughters, Bernice Byrum, Shirley Riddick and Mary Cutchins; son, Mike Constant, all of Suffolk; brother, Tony Constant and wife, Helen, of Richmond, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at 2 p.m. in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Allen Lancaster. A reception will follow the funeral at Liberty Spring Christian Church, 4213 Whaleyville Blvd.
