David Ray Chavis, 49, of Suffolk passed away Jan. 16. He worked as a bail bondsman and attended the Church of God.
David is survived by his mother, Ellen Chavis Gay; father, Nathaniel Chavis Sr.; daughter, Celina Michelle Smith and friend, Ron Lamb, of Fla.; sons and daughters-in-law, Ryan and Tracey Chavis of Carrsville, Justin Chavis of Texas, Jason and Brittany Chavis of Yorktown; grandchildren, Rylan Lamb and Alexia Warren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn J. and Wayne Evans of Suffolk, Karen F. and James Whitley of Suffolk; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Jettie Chavis of Suffolk, Larry and Cindy Chavis of Suffolk, Nat Pee Wee and Lori Chavis of Suffolk, Harry Jabo and Debbie Chavis of Suffolk, Don and Tina Chavis of Fort Smith, Ark.; Keith and Kandi Chavis of Toccoa, Ga. and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Jan 20 at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive with Rev. James Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his mother, Ellen Chavis Gay.
