NEWPORT NEWS — Lawra M. Small, 82, passed away on Jan. 25, 2010. She was a native of Weston, W.Va., and had been a resident of Newport News for 10 years. Lawra was a homemaker and a Christian.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benny and Lovie Small; sisters, Goldie Small and Annie Small Acey; brother, Huey Small; and a great-nephew, Allen Nelms.
Survivors include, sister, Hattie Small Nelms, of Newport News; niece, Diane and husband, Curtis Large, of Chesapeake; six nephews, Alan and wife, Joanne York, of Appomattox, Va., Roy and wife, Stella Acey, of Suffolk, Horace and wife, Cathy Nelms, Allen Nelms, William “Lammie” Sr. and Rose Nelms, all of Newport News, Rickey and wife, Karen Nelms, of Lynchburg; great-nephews, Robby and Bennie York, William “Lammie” Nelms Jr., Joseph Traner Casidy, Justin Nelms, Horace Nelms IV, Ricky Nelms, Brandon Nelms, Huey Nelms, Huey Acey, Roy Acey Jr., Josh Nelms; great-nieces, Chiffon Nelms, Laura Nelms, Hattie Nelms, Ammie Nelms, Anna Nelms, Jessica Nelms, Angelenia Nelms, Lovie York, Goldie York, Tiffany Acey, Stephanie Acey, Krystal Large, Kandice Large and Kelly Large; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Peninsula Funeral Home with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery in Suffolk.
