Chester Hart Sr.

Chester Marvin Hart Sr., 88, a 52-year resident of Hampton, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010.
Born in Gresham, Ore., and raised in Devil’s Lake, N.D., he was the son of Oscar and Sina Hart. He retired as a Major in the U.S. Air Force while stationed at Langley Air Force Base after 20 years of service.
Major Hart was stationed in Greenwood, Miss., during World War II, where he trained pilots. While in Mississippi he met Mary “Jane” Hutchinson, who became his wife of 49 years. After his Air Force retirement, he joined Ames Associates of Norfolk as an insurance agent. He later started his own business consulting firm, from which he retired in 1990.
Major Hart enjoyed his years of membership in the Sertoma Club and the Langley Golf Association. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed any activity that included his beloved family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Hutchinson Hart.
He is survived by his sons, Chester M. Hart Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Suffolk, Va. and David A. Hart, of Hampton; grandsons, Riggan Matthews Hart and Garland Bennett Hart, both of Suffolk; brother, Leonard O. Hart and his wife, Lois, of Eugene, Ore.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, whom he visited often.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 18 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
A celebration of Major Hart’s life will be held Friday, March 19 in the funeral home chapel. Interment with military honors will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton.
