Joseph Hodges

SUFFOLK — Joseph A. Hodges, 77, of the 600 block of Adkins Circle, Suffolk, passed away June 3, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and son of the late Berneathia Thompson and Clarence Hodges Sr.
Mr. Hodges was employed by Suffolk Towers. He was a member of New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministries and served on the Usher Ministry.
He leaves to cherish lasting memories, his devoted wife, Mary Hodges; daughters, Berneathia Myers, of Manhattan, Kan., Sarah Nowell (Walter), of Gates County, N.C.; Jeanette Hodges and Barbara Smith (Lorenza), of Suffolk; six sons, Ishma Joseph Hodges, of Washington, D.C., Joseph A. Hodges Jr. (Theresa), of California, Alfred Harrell, of New Jersey, Melvin Harrell, of Oceanside, Md., the Rev. Ronnie Hodges (Hattie), and Jimmy Hodges, of Suffolk; two sisters, Berneathia Kee (Frank), of Connecticut, and Fannie Jordan, of Suffolk; two brothers, Clarence Hodges Jr., of Norfolk, and Floyd Hodges (Mary), of Suffolk; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at noon Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at New Mount Joy Food for Living Ministries, conducted by Dr. Viola Parker, pastor. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
