Six Suffolk Public Schools are now fully accredited, based on the Spring 2002 Stands of Learning test results, it was announced recently.

At last week’s Suffolk School Board meeting, Supt. Dr. Milton R. Liverman announced that a preliminary analysis indicated significant improvements on the tests and that none of the 18 schools was &uot;accredited with warning,&uot; the lowest rating.

The number of accredited schools jumped from one to six, attaining a state standard four years ahead of schedule. Fully accredited means that the schools have met the state standard for 2006 – a 70 percent pass rate or better in English, mathematics, science and computer technology, and the 55 percent pass rate in history/social studies.

Fully accredited schools include Driver Elementary, Florence Bowser Elementary, Kilby Shores Elementary, Northern Shores Elementary, Forest Glen Middle School and John Yeates Middle School,

Three schools increased their accreditation standings and are now &uot;provisionally accredited/meets state standards. Nansemond Parkway Elementary, Southwestern Elementary and John F. Kennedy Middle School are now less than five points from meeting full accreditation, according to a press release.

Five other schools are &uot;provisionally accredited/needs improvement,&uot; which indicates the schools are less than 19 points away from meeting the state standards. They include Mount Zion Elementary, Robertson Elementary, King’s Fork Middle, Lakeland High and Nansemond River High.

Data from Booker T. Washington Elementary, Elephant’s Fork Elementary and Oakland Elementary is still incomplete and not included in the staff’s preliminary analysis.
