Melvin K. Banks Sr.

Melvin Kinston Banks Sr., 66, of 116 S. Fourth St., Suffolk, died Monday, July 1, 2002.

He was a native of Southampton County. He was a son of the late James Henry Banks Sr. and Purlie M. Britt Banks.

He had retired as a forklift operator at Planters Peanuts after 38 years of service.

He was a member of East End Baptist Church and the Local 26 Retirement Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Charlene L. Banks and Melvina Hill, both of Suffolk; a son, Melvin K. Banks Jr., and his wife, Kinesha Banks, of Greenville, S.C.; five sisters, Bessie V. Banks and Teresa Parker, both of Franklin, Fletcher Artis of Severn, Md., Marion B. Small and Gerline Biggs, both of New York City; two brothers, Rev. James H. Banks Jr. of Franklin and Cary R. Banks of Trenton, N.J.; four grandchildren; a special friend, Mary Frances Hill; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in East End Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Mark A. Croston Sr. Interment will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery.

The family will be at the residence.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, with burial in Great Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
