Bennetts Creek All-Star team head to title games

After starting the sixth inning behind 4-1, the Bennetts Creek 11-12 softball All-Star team scored three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to defeat Wilson 5-4 on Saturday. The team will play in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Bennetts Creek National All-Stars of the 9-10 baseball league lost their first game in the tournament, but have won their last four by a combined total of 57-7, culminating in an 8-1 defeat of Wilson (the team that beat them) on Saturday. The teams will play for the championship at 6 p.m. Monday.
The Bennetts Creek junior All-Stars, who have won their last three games by a combined total of 49-2, defeat Olive Branch 18-1 on Saturday, and will face Wilson in the championship game at 6 p.m. on Monday.
Softball tournament to be held July 20
The Holland Community Center will sponsor its first softball tournament on Saturday, July 20. The tournament will be held at the Holland Community Center on Hwy. 189/West 58 and will begin at 10 a.m.

‘Golf for Hope Classic’ to be held Sept. 12
The Hope House Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides support for people with developmental difficulties, will hold its first Golf For Hope Classic on Sept. 12 at the Riverfront Golf Club. The tournament will begin at 1 p.m., and include a clubhouse luncheon, putting contest, and a post-event award dinner.

State tennis tournament to be held Aug. 5-8
The Virginia State Tennis Championship will be held from Aug. 5-9 at the Howard Mast Tennis Complex. The tournament is open to boys and girls ages 12 and under. The cost is $30 for singles, and $20 per doubles team, and the signup deadline is July 27. Applications can be mailed to the Suffolk Tennis Association, P.O. Box 1514, Suffolk, Va., 23439.
