Major William M. Ledbetter
Major William McQuaien Ledbetter, a Whaleyville native, recently graduated from Command and General Staff Officer College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, and simultaneously earned a Master of Science degree from Central Michigan University.
Maj. Ledbetter is a 1983 honor graduate from the former John F. Kennedy High School and also graduated Magna Cum Laude in the field of building construction technology in the class of 1988 from Norfolk State University.
Ledbetter is the son of Margie H. Ledbetter of Whaleyville, and the late William Henry Ledbetter.
Ledbetter, his wife Tammi and son, Sheldon are residing in Ft. Benning, Ga.
Michael A. Robinson
Army Pvt. Michael A. Robinson, son of Annette and St. Claire M. John of 6718b Braebourne Court, recently graduated from the Communications Signals Collection and processing course at Naval Technical Training Center Corry Station, Pensacola, Fla.
During the course, he and other Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force students received instruction on the gathering and analyzing of intelligence information.
Robinson took the course as a prerequisite for entrance into one of more than five cryptologic technician technical branch specialized courses..
Robinson is a 2001 graduate of Nansemond River High School
Brandy D. Harris
Air Force Airman Brandy D. Harris has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
Harris is the daughter of Frederick Harris Jr. of 241 Carnation Dr., Killeen, Texas and the granddaughter of Gloria Baker of Suffolk.
William L. Byrd
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class William L. Byrd, son of James C. Byrd of 5509 S. Lake Road, Suffolk, is halfway through a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, cased in Norfolk.
He is a 1979 graduate of the former John Yeates High School and joined the Navy in March 1991.
Christopher V. Ward
Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Christopher V. Ward, a 1999 graduate of Nansemond River High School, is halfway through a six-month deployment on the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C.
He is one of more than 10,000 Atlantic sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS John F. Kennedy Carrier Battle Group and USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group.
Deon L. Scott
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Deon L. Scott, a 1996 graduate of Lakeland High School, recently returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the guided missile cruiser USS Leyte Gulf, homeported in Norfolk.
Scott was one of more than 10,000 Atlantic Fleet Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Battle Group and USS Bataan Amphibious Ready Group that participated in Operation Enduring Freedom.
Michael A. Hunt
Army Pvt. Michael A. Hunt has graduated from the automated logistical specialist advanced
individual training (AIT) course at Ft. Lee, Petersburg.
He was trained to establish and maintain stock records and other documents and performs prescribed loads and shop stock lists in manual and automated supply applications. Hunt is the son of Mary C. Hunt of 200 W. Constance Road.
Christopher E. Everett
Army Staff Sgt. Christopher E. Everett has returned to Ft. Benning, Columbus, Ga. from a six-month deployment to Kosovo, a Serbian province in the Balkans.
Everett, assigned to the 1st Batallion, 30th Infantry, participated in Operation Joint Guardian. The operation is a multinational peacekeeping mission that provides a safe and secure environment for the people of Kosovo.
Everett is the son of Flossie E. Hall of 25441 Woodland Park Circle, Courtland, and Thomas L. Hall of Suffolk. His wife, Tonya, is the daughter of Joseph and Barbara Mason 31105 Walters Highway, Franklin
