Lakeland field hockey college, state news

Three more players from the Lakeland High School field hockey team that took the 2002 Southeastern District title have been awarded college scholarships. Goalkeeper Stacy Saunders will join teammate Courtney Brown at Radford University, while Tara Worley will attend Virginia Commonwealth University and Cara Byrd Virginia Wesleyan.
In other Lakeland news, Byrd and Darcy Pinchbeck were named to the Virginia High School Coaches Association AAA Schools All-State team.
Softball tournament to be held July 20
The Holland Community Center will sponsor its first softball tournament on Saturday, July 20. The tournament will be held at the Holland Community Center on Hwy. 189/West 58 and will begin at 10 a.m.

‘Golf for Hope Classic’ to be held Sept. 12
The Hope House Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides support for people with developmental difficulties, will hold its first Golf For Hope Classic on Sept. 12 at the Riverfront Golf Club. The tournament will begin at 1 p.m., and include a clubhouse luncheon, putting contest, and a post-event award dinner.

State tennis tournament to be held Aug. 5-8
The Virginia State Tennis Championship will be held from Aug. 5-9 at the Howard Mast Tennis Complex. The tournament is open to boys and girls ages 12 and under. The cost is $30 for singles, and $20 per doubles team, and the signup deadline is July 27. Applications can be mailed to the Suffolk Tennis Association, P.O. Box 1514, Suffolk, Va., 23439.
