Sewanne Matthews

Sewanne Matthews of 2510 Cedar Lake Drive, Suffolk, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, in Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. He was a native of Arlington, Tenn.
He retired after 15 years as an electronic technician for the Norfolk Naval Air Station. He had retired after 20 years as an SD1 for the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, Portsmouth. He was a member of the Olympian Sports Club, the G&H Hunt Club, the Alchis Club, and the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Virginia, Order of Masons.
Survivors include his wife, Marion H. Matthews; a daughter, Linda Piersall of Chesapeake; two stepsons, Colonius Rawlings and Vincent Rawlings, both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Lois Hayes of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, L.D. Matthews of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in New First Baptist Church, Taylorsville, by the Rev. Melvin Boone. Burial with military honors will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake.
The body will be taken at 1 p.m. today to the church.
Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is in charge.
