Credit union awards scholarships

Bronco Federal Credit Union recently awarded eight high school seniors from the Hampton Roads community with scholarships to help them begin their continued education journey.

This year’s program awarded one $10,000 scholarship, two $2,500 scholarships and five $1,000 scholarships to the graduating seniors.

Zachary Peak of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is the recipient of the $10,000 John Alan Glasgow Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is named in memory of John Alan Glasgow, Class of 1999, to recognize the scholastic and life achievements of a graduating student.

Emily Babski of Smithfield High School and Grace Francis of Southampton High School were each awarded a $2,500 Bronco Scholarship. In addition, Jennifer Asbell of Lakeland High School, Virginia Hassell of Cape Henry Collegiate, Jennifer Jervey of Franklin High School, Patricia Ona of the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology, and Abbey Weist of Southampton Academy each received a $1,000 scholarship from Bronco.

The 2012 scholarship winners have demonstrated excellent community and extracurricular activity involvement as well as strong academics throughout their high school careers, according to a press release on the scholarships.

Bronco Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that was founded in 1941 and is headquartered in Franklin. It employs 66 team members in Franklin and Suffolk.
