Dontarius Boone scored his fourth and fifth touchdowns of the season as the Bennett’s Creek (BC) Warriors Pee-Wee team defeated the Portsmouth Inner-City (IC) Lions 26-6 at John Yeates Middle School on Saturday afternoon. The little Warriors moved their record to 4-1 with the victory.

When he’s heading toward the line, said Boone, &uot;I think I might get hit and fumble, but I got to take it to the house (score a touchdown)! I juke and spin, and then I run full speed!&uot;

All the Warriors were moving quickly on their opening drive. Travonne Fuller motored 19 yards to the IC 39, and Michael Mason tossed an 18-yard pass to Michael Brown on the next play. Runs by Alex Dorsey and Mason got the Warriors down to the five, but BC mishandled a fumble, and the Lions scooped it up.

They didn’t waste time, as Brian Smith ran to the 16, and Anthony Blount darted up the middle to the Warrior 39. Smith appeared to score on the next play, but the Lions were called for holding, knocking them back to the 48. Three plays later, Derek Bennett picked off a Lion pass, and the Warriors were on the move.

Boone churned out 20 yards on the next two plays, but a pass-interference penalty handed the Warriors a fourth-and-15. But Mason hit a streaking Derek Wright over the middle, and Wright scrambled all the way to the IC 11. Two plays later, Boone muscled through the line for his first touchdown. Rar-kesh Harris kicked the two-pointer (in Pop Warner leagues, kicking for the extra point is worth two points), and BC held an 8-0 lead.

Smith and Doneil Atkins ran the Lions down to the BC 30, but Brad Watahovich ripped the ball away from two IC players to get the ball back to BC. Brown and T.J. Piland rumbled to the IC 35, and Mason clipped off the drive with a 27-yard toss to Brown.

&uot;It was like I was just standing there, and the ball was floating toward me,&uot; said Brown. &uot;Someone grabbed my shirt, but I was already in the endzone.&uot;

&uot;Michael’s always one of my favorite targets!&uot; said Mason. &uot;I knew he was wide open, because I saw the linebackers blitzing.&uot;

The Lions finally got on the board in the third quarter, when Smith dove over the goal line from a yard out. But Boone scored on a 10-yard dash, and Piland swept around the left side from five yards away to end the game.

Even at 4-1, the team isn’t satisfied, said Mason. &uot;We want to go all the way to 7-1!&uot;
