How often is it that the state’s top Democrat politician and top Republican politician agree on something? When that happens, it must be that partisanship is being put aside for something that is really important to our commonwealth.

That’s exactly what has happened with the transportation referendum. Hampton Roads’ transportation problem is so bad, and the state’s resources limited that Gov. Mark Warner and Sen. John Warner – once political enemies – have joined forces to push for passage of the regional transportation referendum.

This cooperation between the Warners is evidence that I can ago to the polls on Nov. 5 and vote for something that will not help one political party or another, but rather will help me. Passing the referendum will take us over the final hurdle to improving our region’s transportation system so that we can spend less time in traffic and more time doing the things we enjoy.
