An 83-year-old Suffolk man died Monday after he rear-ended a tractor-trailer stopped at the intersection of Moore and Finney avenues.
James Wesley Riddick of 2221 Florida Ave. died at Obici Hospital shortly after the accident, said Officer Michael E. Simpkins, spokesman for the Suffolk Police Department.
The accident happened about 10:15 a.m. when Riddick, driving a 1988 GMC pickup, drove up behind three tractor-trailers stopped for a red light at the intersection, Simpkins said.
The small pickup ran into the back of a 1999 Freightliner driven by Eugene Thomas of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Simpkins said. Thomas was not injured.
Riddick was not wearing a seat belt.
Speed was not a factor in the accident, Simpkins said. Although he did not know how fast Riddick was traveling, the speed limit in the area is 35 miles per hour.
No charges were lodged against the truck driver.
