Celebrating local education

One of the greatest gifts that can be bestowed on a person is a good education. And the concept of a good, free education is one of this nation’s proudest accomplishments. It is the great equalizer in our society.

Access to a free, quality education at least gives even the poorest child from the direst of circumstances a fighting chance to succeed in life and rise above the station to which they were born.

It’s something to celebrate and that’s just what’s going on this week in Suffolk Public Schools as American Education Week is observed from Nov. 18 to Nov. 22.

Most schools have open houses planned so that the public can come in to see their tax dollars at work, how dedicated teachers are working hard to prepare our children for becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

This year’s theme is &uot;Making Public Schools Great for Every Child.&uot; You owe it to yourself to visit your neighborhood school and see how your money is being spent. You’re likely to be pleasantly surprised.
