Ambiguity surrounds a planned two-month absence of Clarissa E. McAdoo, executive director of the Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

In yet another round of controversy for the agency, at least two commissioners have expressed concern over McAdoo’s medical leave from the agency since Nov. 6 – and the fact that her expected return isn’t until Jan. 6.

SRHA Commissioner Linda Brown was so irate Tuesday that she’s calling for McAdoo’s resignation, unless she complies with the agency’s policy of submitting a doctor’s note for sick leave beyond the third day.

&uot;If she can’t come up with a doctor’s slip, then I am asking her to resign,&uot; said Brown after a joint committee meeting last night.

Resident at-large commissioner Thelma Hinton agreed that, &uot;If employees have to do it, then she has to do it has well.&uot;

SRHA Board Chairman Mary V. Richardson said McAdoo called her on Nov. 6 to inform her that she would be out on medical leave; however, the information was only presented to board members Tuesday night.

&uot;I knew about it before she went. We had discussed it,&uot; said Richardson, who could not say definitely why there was a lag in communication to the entire board.

She added that she is unaware of McAdoo’s specific medical condition, only referring to a memo from the agency’s human resources manager, Tracy Snipes, indicating that McAdoo is out at her doctor’s request until Jan. 6.

The memo also states that each respective department head is in charge, putting another concern on the table for Hinton:

&uot;Who’s in charge?&uot; she questioned in an interview. She added that at least two of the department heads are still on 90-day probation.

Richardson stated earlier that she has &uot;no problem&uot; with all the directors being in charge.

In other matters, Richardson confirmed that Commissioner Elizabeth Smith has decided not to seek another term on the board. Richardson said it was simply due to various other commitments.
