Nellie C. White

Nellie Cartwright White, 69, of Suffolk, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002.
She was co-founder and secretary-treasurer of Starr Motors, Inc. for 40 years.
Born on Nov. 6, 1933 in Perquimans County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Mannie Copeland and John Lowry Cartwright, and was predeceased by her daughter, Terrie Ann White.
Nell was an active member of West End Baptist Church; past president of the Riverview Garden Club; past president of the Virginia Independent Automobile Association, Ladies Auxiliary; the Suffolk Art League; the Nansemond-Suffolk Historical Society; Riddick’s Folly; and a supporter of the Suffolk High School Restoration Project.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Edward White Sr.; her two sons, Charles Edward &uot;Eddie&uot; White Jr., and his wife, Jackie, and Clay Kevin White Sr., and his wife, Susan, all of Suffolk; a sister, Ella Cartwright Brooks, and her husband, Alan, of Olympia, Wash.; her five grandchildren, Charles Edward White III, Lindsey Elizabeth White, Courtney Janson White, Olivia Hellann White, and Clay &uot;C.J.&uot; Kevin White Jr.; and numerous friends.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in West End Baptist Church by the Rev. T. Floyd Irby, with burial in Cedar Wood Cemetery in Hertford, N.C.
