A third-grader from Booker T. Washington Elementary School has been recommended for an administrative hearing after pulling a toy gun from his book bag while riding the bus home Wednesday, according to a statement from a Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman.
The boy did not threaten anyone with the toy gun, spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw stated in an email.
Possessing a toy gun violates the district’s weapons policy. The disciplinary action is a “recommendation for (an) administrative hearing” because the boy is under 10, Bradshaw stated. If he were 10 or older, expulsion would have been recommended, she added.
Administrative hearings have to be held within 10 days of an offense being reported.
