Joseph Copeland, 73, of 864 Gate Ave., Suffolk, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, in a Brooklyn, N.Y. hospital.

He was a native of Nansemond County. He was the son of the late Virginia Copeland and Fannie Everett Copeland.

His survivors include his wife, Ruth Copeland; two sisters, Charlotte Bryant and Elizabeth Hunter (Eddie), both of Suffolk; brother-in-law, Herbert Darden of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Michael Slaughter (Sharon) and Michelle Slaughter; two great-grandchildren, aunts, Martha E. Ruffin and Lucille Lawrence; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, in Crocker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Rodney E. Ruffin. Interment will be held in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
