Two Lakeland High School students who assaulted a 14-year-old ninth-grader Monday are facing expulsion and police charges.
The two students, who are 15- and 16-year-old brothers, have been charged with malicious wounding, said Suffolk Police Officer Michael E. Simpkins, spokesmen for the Suffolk Police Department.
The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. Monday when the two ninth-graders attacked the other student, said Bethanne Bradshaw, school division spokesperson.
Although an ambulance was called, the injured student’s parents arrived at the school and drove him to Obici Hospital. She did not know the details of his injuries.
Several parents who called the newspaper indicated the student received facial injuries, including eyes swollen shot and a fractured nose.
He was released from the hospital late Monday afternoon.
No weapons were used, Bradshaw said.
She said the district would be recommending that both students be expelled for the remainder of the school year because of the severity of the injuries.
Less severe actions, including suspension or nine weeks in classes at the alternative school, could be taken against the two assailants.
No action is expected against the other youngster.
