New York Giants 28, Washington 14. Without Jeremiah Trotter and Dan Wilkinson, the Washington defense has no defense against Jeremy Shockey and Tiki Barber, who combined for 175 yards in the Giants’ 19-17 win over the Skins three weeks ago. Bets are currently flying as to who gets to pretend to play quarterback for Washington.
Cincinnati 3, Carolina 0. This might be the most-watched game of the week, especially by Redskins fans. Not because it’s going to be a good game, but because most of us can stare at the television screen and think, &uot;My team may be having a bad year, but at least they’re not as bad as these two!&uot;
San Francisco 21, Dallas 17. To clinch their 14th division title since 1980, San Francisco needs to win and have Kansas City defeat St. Louis. They’ll have to wait for the second part, but the former should be done handily. Dallas is coming off a win, but it was over Washington: how much momentum can a team get from that?
Cleveland 26, Jacksonville 23. The Browns turned the ball over five times in last week’s humiliation at Carolina’s hands, so they’ve got serious momentum. Jacksonville is going through the motions after seeing their playoff hopes evaporate with last week’s loss to Pittsburgh.
St. Louis 35, Kansas City 16. Normally, the Chiefs would get the Pick, but the Rams are going to show Dick Vermeil what a mistake he made by quitting after bringing the 1999 Super Bowl to Missouri.
Buffalo 38, New England 7. It’s a little-known fact that after he was traded from New England, Drew Bledsoe took out a full-page ad in the Boston Globe to thank Patriot fans for their support. Tom Brady wasn’t sympathetic, leading the former Patsies to a 38-7 rout of Bledsoe’s Bills earlier this year. The Bills should get even today.
Pittsburgh 30, Houston 6. Tommy Maddox, coming off a concussion and spinal injuries, might not be back in tip-top shape in his return today. But that’s all right; he won’t be touched by the Texan defense.
Atlanta 20, Tampa Bay 10. Two months ago, the Tampa Bay defense shut down Michael Vick, holding him to 37 yards and knocking him out of the game in the third quarter. The Falcons haven’t lost since, going 7-0-1. Today, he might get revenge.
Indianapolis 31, Tennessee 28. Game of the week. A win virtually hands the AFC South to the Colts, who would have a two-game lead over Tennessee with four games left. But a Titan victory puts them in the driver’s seat; not only would the teams be tied, but Tennessee would own the tiebreaker with a regular-season sweep (they beat the Colts last month).
Detroit 10, Arizona 3. Earlier this week, Arizona was approved to build a $355 million stadium for the Cardinals. With all that money, you’d think they could get a team to go with it.
Philadelphia 30, Seattle 8. This game will be a break for the Eagles, who are coming off wins over San Francisco and St. Louis.
New Orleans 27, Baltimore 19. Last week, Deuce &uot;Bigelow&uot; McAllister burned the NFL’s top-ranked defense, racking up 99 yards against Tampa Bay. Today, he faces a defense that’s a far cry from the one that brought Baltimore a Super Bowl title two years ago.
Denver 30, New York Jets 27. This game will be won by whoever does the best containment job. If Curtis Martin gets loose, the Jets will take it. If Brian Griese tears it up, Denver wins.
Oakland 27, San Diego 21. The Raiders get the Pick for vengeful reasons; they were burned by LaDanian Tomlinson for a 19-yard touchdown in overtime in the Chargers’ 27-21 on Oct. 20.
Green Bay 50, Minnesota 10. Here’s another revenge. Green Bay was beaten in Minnesota last month, and when Brett Favre is ticked off, watch out.
Miami 26, Chicago 18. Jay Fielder will have a successful return against a team with a shadow of the defense it had last year.
