Scholar deserves high praise

Congratulations to Windsor High School senior Maurica Bynum.
Bynum was recently named a Gates Millennium Scholar, which means as long as she is in college, her tuition will be paid. Of course, she must maintain good grades, but we doubt that will be a problem for her in the long run.
Bynum carries a grade point average of 4.017 and plans to major in accounting at Virginia Wesleyan University.
She was among 1,000 to receive the scholarships from the 24,000 who applied. The program is administered by the National Negro College Fund and was initially funded by a $1 billion grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
This is also the in a row for a Windsor High School student to receive the scholarship. It’s clear that our schools and parents are doing at least a few things right.
Best of luck to this Gates Scholar.
