John Edward &uot;Big Bro&uot; Godwin departed this life on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y.

He was born on May 13, 1923 in Suffolk to the late Hudy and Rhoda Trotter Godwin.

He was a devoted brother and enriched the lives of his nieces and nephews with love and laughter.

He is survived by one brother, William H. Godwin and a loving sister-in-law, Carrie E. Godwin; three nieces, Margaret Hubbard (John) of New York, Colette Hunt and Stephanie Jarvis, both of Suffolk; and one nephew, Anthony Godwin (Lauranette) of Suffolk. He leaves to cherish his memory several great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and many friends.

The funeral will be held at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in Crocker Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Tynes Memorial Cemetery, Smithfield.

The family will receive friends at 5432 Nansemond Pkwy.
