Isle of Wight Academy’s softball team won the Metro Conference title on Thursday, defeating Broadwater Academy 9-2.

Prior to the game, the Lady Chargers were undefeated in the conference and Broadwater had one loss. IWA will be ranked No. 1 and Atlantic Shores No. 2 when the conference tournament opens Tuesday.

The two teams will get a bye; the Lady Charges will play their first game at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home.

As for Thursday’s game, IWA freshman Carson Saunders and senior Kencie Conner combined for six RBIs on two hits. Saunders went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs with a home run. Conner hit a base-loaded triple.
