Schools announce exam changes if weather intervenes

Published 12:00 am Thursday, January 16, 2003

If it is necessary to close Suffolk Public Schools today, the mid-term examination schedule for middle and high schools will be moved forward by one day. This change will affect all traditional schools – elementary, middle and high – for the following week’s schedule as well.

If schools are closed Friday, then Tuesday, Jan. 21 will be a full day for traditional school students – elementary, middle and high. The first exam that would have been given Friday, will be given Tuesday morning. Wednesday, Jan. 22, Thursday, Jan. 23 and Friday, Jan. 24 would then become early dismissal days for all traditional elementary schools and all middle and high schools. The exam sequence will be followed as previously schedules for Jan. 21-23.

Monday, Jan. 27 will be the clerical day with no students in school, instead of Friday, Jan. 24 – for all traditional schools.

Tuesday, Jan. 28 will become the staff development day with no students in school, instead of Monday, Jan. 27 – for all traditional schools.

The schedule for the Year-Round Schools – Booker T. Washington Elementary School and Northern Shores Elementary School – will not change. Tuesday, Jan. 21 will continue to be an early dismissal/teacher clerical day. Monday, Jan. 27 will continue to be a staff development day with no students in school. Tuesday, Jan. 28 will be a full school day for the year-round schools.

If Suffolk Public Schools are open Friday, Jan. 17, the calendar will not change. The first exam would be given Friday. Early dismissal days would remain set for Jan. 21-23. Clerical day with no students in school would remain on Friday, Jan. 24. Staff development day with no students in school would remain on Monday, Jan. 27.

If schools are closed Friday, Jan. 17, the day will not need to be made up because of extra instructional hours that are built into the school calendar.
