William A. Bowers

Mr. William Arthur Bowers, of the 2400 block of Nansemond Parkway, died, Jan. 31, 2003, in Obici Hospital.
He was a member of Tabernacle Christian United Church of Christ and served as superintendent of the Sunday school. Also, he was active in the Democratic Party and president of the Wilroy Civic League in Suffolk.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mrs. Annie Ricks Bowers of Suffolk; one brother, Nathaniel Bowers, and wife, Corrie of Detroit, MI; two grandsons, William Randolph Bowers and Terrance L. Bowers, Suffolk; five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Mr. Bowers’ remains will be placed in the church for viewing by 11 a.m. Wednesday. The service honoring his life will be held at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Tabernacle Christian United Church of Christ, 1401 E. Washington St., Suffolk, with Dr. Carlton Upton delivering the eulogy. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. William M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Inc., 224 S. Main St., Franklin, is handling the funeral arrangements.
