Two charged in string of burglaries

Chesapeake police have arrested two men in connection with about 16 burglaries in the Western Branch area of the city since the beginning of February, according to a department statement.
The men are Mark A. McGavran Jr., 32, of the 4600 block of South St., Portsmouth, and
Joe J. Crum, 30, of the 4600 block of Leeward Drive, Chesapeake.
They were arrested in the 2800 block of Meadow Wood Drive, Chesapeake, just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
The arrests resulted from an investigation involving officers in the Uniform Patrol Section and Criminal Investigations Section detectives.
Police allege the two men were targeting jewelry and precious metals.
Both men were charged with burglary, grand larceny and grand larceny with intent to sell, while McGavran faces an additional charge of damaging property.
They have been remanded to Chesapeake City Jail.
Police expect to lay more charges as their investigation continues, according to the statement.
