March of Dimes fundraisers honored

On Wednesday afternoon in the Suffolk, Museum, the Greater Hampton Roads Division of the March of Dimes paid tribute to top team fundraisers for the annual WalkAmerica event in Suffolk. The goal was $50,000 and $63,000 was raised. Holding plaques, l-r, are the top five team leaders, Linda Story, City of Suffolk, fifth-place team ($2,200); Jackie Russell, Suffolk Health Department, fourth-place team ($3,900); Stephanie Williams, Ciba Specialty Chemicals, third-place ($5,900); Trish Powers, Wilroy Baptist Church, second-place ($15,500); Dr. Milton Liverman, Suffolk Public Schools, first-place ($16,600). Charlotte Harrell, community director for the regional March of Dimes, was present for the occasion. Playing the harp for the reception was Marianne Carr, a seventh-grader at King’s Fork Middle School. She was born three-months premature, and is now a healthy 13 year old.
