Harley Cisco, 90, of Suffolk, passed away on March 30, 2012. He was born March 31, 1921 in Mingo County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jake and Tennessee Cisco. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Joyce Darlene Cisco; sisters, Sally, Dovie and Amy; brothers, Burley, Wallace, Doc, Early, Smith, Reuben, Valley, Shannon, Anse and Columbus.

Harley was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a Corporal during World War II. He served an extra year in the Army under confidential orders. He also retired from the U.S. Navy after serving in the Aleutian Islands. Harley was an expert marksman with many trophies. He was a member of the Church of Christ; honorary member of the Ruritans; performed onstage as a comedian; was coach for Carol’s and Champ’s slow pitch softball teams in the ‘70s and ‘80s; he was a woodworker of violins and wooden guns; an avid gardener; and loved to sing karaoke with friends. Harley loved God, his wife, his children and his country as well as loved being around his friends.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Thelma Lester Cisco; his daughters and sons-in-laws, Rita Cisco Allen and husband, Harry, and Lisa Cisco Scott and husband, Phillip; grandchildren, Tracy Allen Carter and husband, Brandon, and Karen Gaskins and husband, Jeff; great-grandchildren, Nathan Carter, Seth Carter and Angel Zollars; sisters, Evelyn Anders and Mary Hardesty. The family would like to express special thanks to sister-in-law Nancy Warren and Heartland Hospice for their excellent care of Harley.

A funeral service with military honors will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Dick Dinges officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. Friends may join the family for visitation on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
