Staff report
Police are searching for the gunman responsible for shooting a Suffolk man around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Ashley Avenue.
Travis Nathan Blount, 22, of 197-1/2 N. Main St., was taken to Obici Hospital after receiving a gunshot wound to the back, said Officer Michael J. Simpkins, spokesman for the Suffolk Police Department. He was later airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was treated and released Wednesday.
Although witnesses have told authorities that the shooting was accidental, police are still looking into the incident, Simpkins said. Charges may be filed pending the investigation.
A witness reported seeing someone at the scene with a silver handgun, Simpkins said.
