Helen Dempsey Briggs, 93, of 1232 Sierra Drive, Suffolk, died June 21, 2003, in Obici Hospital.

She was a native of Rich Square N.C. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Cornelia Dempsey and the wife of the late Thomas Briggs.

She retired from Planters Peanuts after 30 years of service. She was a member and the mother of Canaan Baptist Church, Suffolk.

Survivors include three daughters, Alberta Jackson of Suffolk, Erlene Western (Leonard) of New York and a very devoted daughter, Catherine Ross (the late L.W.Ross) of Suffolk; one niece, Ruth Edwards; 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren,16 great-great grandchildren and many great nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25 by the Rev. Robert l. Barnes II at Canaan Baptist Church. Burial will be in Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery.
