Warriors defeat Franklin

The Nansemond River High School boys tennis team opened its season with a win over the visiting Broncos of Franklin High School on Friday.

Nansemond River High School’s Zach Sherman attacks the net during a match against Franklin High School’s Shaun Derama on Thursday. Sherman won the match 6-3, 6-2, and the Warriors beat the Broncos 7-2 in non-district play.

The home team picked up six wins in singles play and one win in doubles to take the non-district match 7-2.

  • Winning for the Warriors in singles play were:
  • Zach Sherman 6-3, 6-2 over Shaun Derama
  • Gene Hong 6-0, 6-1 over Mike Lawyer
  • Adrian Dew 7-5,7-5 over Darryl West
  • Janeil Parker 6-2,6-4 over William Jackson
  • Greg Jewette 6-1,6-0 over Khiry Reese
  • Josh Green 6-1, 6-0 over Neco Newsome

Doubles matches were played in an eight-game pro set. The scores were as follows:

  • Lenerd & Thompson (NRHS ) lost 5-8 to Derama & Jackson.
  • Douglas & Nerse (NRHS ) lost 3-8 to Lawyer & West.
  • Green & Clark (NRHS ) won 8-0 over Reese & Newsome.
