‘No such thing as free’

To the editor:
In reference to Andy Damiani’s March 4 letter and one from Laura Drap on March 10, both regarding recycling:
These two fine people think that recycling should be free. Recycling already is free to those who carry their recyclables to the many drop-off points around the city. If you would like to have your items picked up at your door, you will be asked to pay a fee for this service.
I would like free cable TV, phone and Internet service, also. But there is no such thing as free services.
The taxpayers already pay to have these containers placed around the city and picked up on a regular basis.
Mr. Downtown Suffolk should know that none of the services provided by the city are truly free. We all pay for them. Extra services should be paid for by those who receive the services.
