Ministers’ wives award scholarship

Arsonia S. Grandy, a 2003 graduate of Nansemond River High School, is this year’s recipient of the Addie M. word Scholarship, which is awarded annually by the Suffolk and Vicinity Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows.
Grandy is an active member of East End Baptist Church and will be attending Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond where she will major in art history. She is the daughter of Malachi and Veronica Grandy of Suffolk.
The Addie M. Word Scholarship is awarded in honor of Mrs. Addie Word, who founded the Suffolk Association of Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widow in the early ’70s.
The criteria for the scholarship includes an overall GPA of at least 2.50. The student must also posses good moral standards and must be actively involved in his or her church.
Carol B. Diggs is president of the organization, and Word is the wife of Dr. C. J. Word, pastor emeritus of East End Baptist Church.
