Manson witness says she is not trying to save her own life

LOS ANGELES (UPI) – Linda Kasabian, the witness whose testimony could send Charles Manson and three young women to the gas chamber, was asked Friday if she was telling the story of the Tate-LaBlanca slayings to save her own life.

The tiny blonde looked directly at defense lawyer Paul Fitzgerald as the jurors at the murder trial sat tense in their seats.

&uot;I’d give my life if none of this had happened – for the people who were killed,&uot; she said.

In an emotional exchange with Fitzgerald, Mrs. Kasabian admitted she knew she would be granted immunity from prosecution if she told the story of the seven slayings

Eure joins West

John D. Eure Jr. will become associated with Hugh A. West in the general practice of law with offices in the Professional Building. Eure, a Suffolk native, attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, and received a B.S. degree in commerce there in 1964. …In June 1967, he received his degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Eure is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Eure, 607 North Broad Street. His wife is the former Mary Anne Debnam of Suffolk. They are the parents of Ann Dalton Eure and David Debnam Eure. They reside at 1179 River Road.

Suffolk native promoted

James Edwards, son of Mrs. Mary Edwards of Suffolk, has been promoted from senior field claim representative to claim specialist in the Virginia Beach office of the State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co.

He is a native of North Carolina and graduate of Wake Forest University.

Pearce and Southside score 15th win in a row

Riddick Pearce matched his 15th straight win with a four hitter and Warren Williams hit a three-run double in the fourth inning to give Southside Baptist an 8-6 win over second place Wilroy Friday night in the Nansemond County Church Softball League. Southside won four games during the past week to ends its league schedule with 15 straight games. …Warren Williams, brother Leslie and John Haldsworth got the three Southside hits. Johnny Reeves, Earl Heffington and Bill Hall each got three hits for Wilroy Friday night.
