SUFFOLK — Anne Hargroves Parker White, 92, of Suffolk, died March 18, 2012, at The Windsor in Richmond, Va. She was predeceased by her parents, Oma Herbert and Grace Jordan Parker, and a brother, Oma Herbert Parker Jr.; husbands Frederick Scott Norfleet, whom she married during World War II, and Lewis Rights (Captain Dick) White, whom she married in 1963.

Anne’s life was all about her family and friends, her beloved Oxford United Methodist Church, her strong belief in a good education, and everything Suffolk. After graduating from Suffolk High School in 1937, Anne earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Mary Washington in 1941. Her first job, teaching business courses in Dinwiddie County, was followed by various office jobs in Suffolk, including at Planters Peanut Co., Wachovia Bank, a law office, the Suffolk Health Department, and the office of the superintendent of schools. She then returned to SHS, first as a business teacher/office assistant and later as a guidance counselor until her retirement in the early ‘80s.

Anne is survived by her son, Frederick Parker (Bo) Norfleet; a daughter, Anne Scott Norfleet Click; and grandson, Christopher Frederick Click, all of Richmond. With Anne’s marriage to Captain Dick, his three children became Anne’s family: daughter, Alice White Trainer and husband, John E. Trainer, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and sons, Lewis Richard White and wife, Mary Pelham, of Virginia Beach, and Herbert Franklin White and wife, Leslie, of Earlysville, Va.; grandchildren John E. Trainer Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, Cynthia T. Williams and husband, Jeffrey, and Ellen Trainer, all of Jacksonville, Fla., Lewis R. White Jr. and wife, Maricruz, of Oaxaca, Mexico, Anne Kendrick White, of New York, N.Y., Ellen White, of New Haven, Conn., and Curtis White, of Northern Virginia; and nine great-grandchildren.

Also, Anne leaves behind beloved cousins from each family branch. Among them are her dear cousin Edythe Ballard Small and the Hon. William W. Jones, both of Suffolk. His devotion to Anne’s care and well-being allowed her to live in her childhood home as long as possible.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Ken Hanson in Cedar Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.

The family wants to thank the Windsor staff, as well as Medi-Hospice, for the care she received this past year while in Richmond.
