Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to a fire in the warehouse area of Beamon Johnson/NAPA Auto Parts on South Saratoga Street just after noon on Tuesday. They brought the blaze under control in less than an hour.

Suffolk firefighters used lessons learned at a class in Hampton this weekend to keep an auto parts store fire under control on Tuesday.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue units were dispatched to a fire in the warehouse area of Beamon Johnson/NAPA Auto Parts in the 100 block of South Saratoga Street just after noon on Tuesday.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire in the rear of the warehouse, which adjoins the main sales showroom. The warehouse contains many large metal storage racks with automobile parts.

Several employees had tried to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived. One employee was treated on the scene by paramedics and refused further treatment. No other injuries were reported.

The fire was brought under control at 12:45 p.m. The cause of the fire still is under investigation.

In an eerie coincidence, this week marks the 16th anniversary of a fire at an Advance Auto Parts store in Chesapeake that claimed the lives of two Chesapeake firefighters. That blaze was discussed at a class in Hampton this weekend, where several Suffolk firefighters were in attendance.

At the class, firefighters reviewed the methods used to fight that fire. Due in part to the lessons learned at that class, firefighters — including Lt. Aimee Barrineau, who was the first arriving company officer from Engine 1 on Tuesday — were able to successfully control the fire.
