CHESAPEAKE — The Rev. Wilbert “Jimmy” Andrew Lewis Jr., 62, of Chesapeake Crossings Senior Community, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, at Chesapeake General Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, the late Wilbert Andrew and Lucille Lewis, and a brother, Gregg Perkins. Wilbert was a 1969 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School (Suffolk), a graduate of the College of Alameda (AA/1973), San Francisco State University (B.A./1975), Norfolk State University (M.A./1980), and International Bible Institute and Seminary (1985).

He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Vietnam. Wilbert was formerly employed by Suffolk Public Schools and was a former Suffolk police officer. He was a member of Macedonia AME Church. He was also a member of Joshua 66 Lodge (F&A Masons) and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

He is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Fulgeon (Willie), of Chesapeake; one son, Jason Wilbert Andrew Lewis, of College Park, Md., and daughter, LeShell Glover (David), of York, Pa.; four grandchildren, Ashley, Dominique, Monique and Amber Fulgeon; two sisters, Sylvia Lewis and Carolynn Perkins; two brothers, Trevor Perkins and Cornelius Perkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 16, at Macedonia AME Church, 127 Pine St., Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Charles L. Harvin Sr. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Metropolitan Funeral Services, 5605 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth.
