River, Lakeland games to be made up today

Friday’s rain caused several postponements among Suffolk high school sports. Nansemond River will host Lake Taylor at 1 p.m. today, while Lakeland heads to Norcom at 2 p.m. today. Lakeland’s field hockey game against Kempsville was postponed, and a makeup date had no been announced at press time.
Parks and Rec. youth league basketball starts in late Sept.
Suffolk Parks and Recreation will be holding registration for youth basketball from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays from Sept. 27 to Nov. 1 at Birdsong, Booker T. Washington, Mack Benn, Oakland, King’s Fork, and Northern Shores Rec. Centers. The cost is $40 for Novice (5-7), and $45 for Pee-Wee (8-10), Midget (11-12) and Junior (13-14). Proof of age and residence is required upon registration.
A coaches meeting will be held at Birdsong Rec. Center at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 25, and games will be played at King’s Fork. For more information, please call 923-2360 or 923-2367.

Lady Saints take another five-game victory
Britney Bishop and Lexi Holland combined for 17 kills as the Nansemond-Suffolk Acad-emy girls volleyball team won its second consecutive game Thursday, beating visiting Catholic 20-25, 25-9, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11. The Lady Saints will play in the Gator Kickoff Classic at Greenbrier Christian today.
